About & Contact

I live a ten minute walk from the Pacific ocean. Because of this close proximity, the ocean and where land comes in close contact with the sea has seeped its way into the drawings I make.  I entwine narrative threads to describe the gravity, wonder, and reverence of my subjects. I draw what is close to me, what is beyond my physical reach, and what is from the realm of the imagined.

Smith was born in 1981 in San Francisco, CA where she currently lives and works.  She received an MFA from University of California, Berkeley & BFA from the Minneapolis College of Art & Design. Her work was featured in the 2006 Whitney Biennial, New York and she has been an artist in residence at the Headlands Center for the Arts in Sausalito, CA.  In 2011 Chronicle Books published her illustrated book of folk songs titled The Littlest Birds Sing the Prettiest Songs. She is represented by Rena Bransten Gallery, in San Francisco.
